Renewable Energy Experiential Learning (REEL)
A free educational program introducing primary school students to local renewable energy technologies and their impact on sustainability.

Renewable Energy Experiential Learning (REEL) is an innovative educational initiative co-developed by the Bioregional Learning Centre and Totnes Renewable Energy Society (TRESOC).
This program aims to engage primary school students with the concepts of renewable energy and its role in addressing broader energy issues.
Key aspects of REEL include:
- Hands-on learning: Students explore how renewable energy technologies work and how they integrate into the local landscape.
- Local focus: The program introduces students to nearby hydro, solar, and wind schemes, making the abstract concept of renewable energy tangible and relevant.
- Expert involvement: Local organisations and businesses specialising in technology, investment, sustainability, ecology, and education contribute their expertise to the program.
- Real-world impact: By exploring local electricity generation, students gain insight into renewable energy's potential for positive change.
REEL was launched in June 2017 at St Christopher's Prep School in Staverton. Since its inception, TRESOC has conducted five additional projects across four local primary schools, reaching over 92 children.
