Pillars

Building the foundation for a thriving bioregion

With long term resilience in mind, we are designing three pillars to support the emergence of a healthy bioregion. The pillars give a central role to civil society alongside policy makers, statutory bodies and experts. A knowledge network will enable the ready exchange of information; collaborative decision-making will release agency; a finance facility will enable action. Because the pillars are interconnected, we are addressing them simultaneously in order to build the capacity of society to adapt faster than the rate of climate change.

Our core pillars

1

Data & evidence

Data is the foundation of informed decision-making. At BLC, we believe that when communities understand and use data, they can take ownership of their shared resources.

2

Governance & organisation

Collaboration is key to creating resilient communities. We’re building pathways for citizens and policymakers to work together toward meaningful climate action.

3

Funding & resourcing

Resourcing a bioregion means thinking beyond traditional funding models. We’re developing innovative solutions that build community wealth while regenerating ecosystems.

How do they work together?

"Our goal is to empower citizens with the tools and knowledge to collect, share, and use data about our bioregion. When people understand the data, they can play an active role in managing our shared resources."

Funding & resourcing

Resourcing a bioregion means thinking beyond traditional funding models. We’re developing innovative solutions that build community wealth while regenerating ecosystems.

"We're prototyping a bioregional funding ecosystem that can build community and ecological wealth. It's about creating a model that can be replicated elsewhere, without relying on mega-philanthropic funding."

Tracy Ebbrell
Programme Director
